my brother in law has a rock river flat top AR-15 with a open sight on it that he bought brand new and slightly used it but took very good care for it. looks brand new. wants to buy a colt now and sell me the rock river. whats a gun like that worth? he wants 900 dollars. comes with a 30 and a 20 round clip. any advice is appreciated


Looking at adding another AR-15 to the arsenal. I don't do match shooting, just fun plinking and preparation for the inevitable zombie invasion. Seriously though, there are a lot out there now. Colt, Bushmaster, Armalite, Smith & Wesson, and some other brands I haven't heard of. Then on top of all the selections of brand, they all have several variants to choose from! If someone can guide me to the differences, I'll be very happy.
Sorry for the lack of description. I'm looking to spend $1,700 or less. Wanting it stock .223, maybe the option to change the upper to a higher caliber.


I have an uncle living in California who has owned a AR-15A2 Sporter II 9mm Carbine (R6420) since April of 1994, and due to California's AR15 laws, they require:

*A 10-round magazine
*Magazine lock (aka a "bullet button")
*Off-list stripped lower receiver.

I was wondering if this would apply to this rifle even if it does not fire the .223 round and instead shoots a 9mm.

Our particular rifle is/has:

*chambered in 9x19mm
*An unchanged magazine release (the magazine is still able to be detached w/o a bullet button tool)
*2 20-round magazines, and 1 32-round magazine. (All for 9mm)
*factory Colt 9mm stripped lower receiver

So far, this rifle has undergone no changes from when he purchased it 16 years ago. It does NOT have an off-list lower receiver, mag lock, or 10-round magazine. Since this rifle was purchased before the AR-15 ban, I was worried if is this rifle still legal.

If not, does anyone know where they sell off-list receivers? I checked with STAG ARMS, and they don't seem to have any 9mm lowers. I'm planning to sell the Colt lower, and the magazines, and I already know where to get the 10-rounder 9mm magazines and the magazine lock, but before I do, I still need to know if it is still legal.

so my question is, does changing the stock of a firearm on a Ruger 10 22 make it a 'semi-automatic version of that weopon'
If I get an m4 stock for a ruger, does that make it a semi automatic version of the M4? Obviously the pistol grip aspect of a stock will count as the one of two accessories needed for it to be considered an assault rifle, but suppose it has the pistol grip, but a set stock (as in not folded or telescopic), would it be considered an assault weapon?


I know it all depends on what you want to do with it (self defense, hunt, target shooting).

I plan on using it for hunting (small critters - e.g. rabbits) and target practice.

However, I selected the m4 colt .22 due to its relatively inexpensive price for the gun and ammunition. However, a few of my relatives and friends advised me that I should of gotten the .223
bushmaster ar-15 because of its power and ability to take down bigger animals.

Am I really going to be at an disadvantage?
Did I make the mistake of purchasing the "better than nothing" caliber weapon?

Has anybody come across a gun that wouldn't shoot them? They seem to be a cure-all for any .22 pistol or rifle that is finicky about ammunition.

By the way, they are one of a very few (Remington Yellow Jackets also work) rounds that I've found that work in the new AR-15-style .22's coming out. Tested 12 different makes of .22 shells in both a S&W AR-15 .22 and a Colt AR-15 .22 . These are not conversion kit guns, they're actually just .22 rifles that wouldn't shoot anything but CCI Mini-mag and Remington Yellow Jackets.

As well, that was the answer for breaking in a Walther P-22 and Sig Mosquito. No other rounds function or cycle even half as well.

They're not the hottest rounds on the market (1260fps for the CCI).. is it bullet head shape or something else?

I just purchased a brand new in the hard case an DPMS Panther 5.56 Nato Sportical AR-15 .223 REM. I paid $659.99 for it brand new. Is this a good gun and is that a good price? Also will this gun hold it's value like a colt H Bar would? It also came with 2 30rd clips and a cleaning kit.

OK I have seen talks of a .45 acp being useless against bear, but there have been reports of a 1911 equipped with a mech tech CCU upper being capable of stopping a bear.

How accurate is this?
What kind of bear did it stop? A cub, full grown, grizzly???

On another note, how effective would a .45 long colt cartridge be against a bear? If it is effective, which bears can it stop?

I am just wondering as I am trying to build an emergency kit and was wondering if I had to utilize something else like a .357 or 5.56mm. I would prefer to keep within a pistol caliber or an AR-15 pistol.

This kit would contain essentials plus a lee portable reloader to make loads on the go.

Please keep in mind that I do understand the potential uselessness of a 5.56mm but if it does have penetrating power with a hollow point and is capable (or if there are reports that may not be worldwide documented) I would appreciate the information.

Also, IF the .45 acp is not effective enough, what is the minimal caliber capable of doing so.

I'm looking for a .223 AR-15 for prairie dog hunts and plinking. I've looked at rifles by Bushmaster, Rock River, Armalite, DPMS and Colt. Figuring a 18 or 20 in barrel would be nice. Not sure which features are most useful. Budget is around $2500 including optics and whatnot Any advice?


The LWRC AR15-like models have the short-stroke piston feature, which dispels gas and carbon as it fires off a round, instead of forcing it back into the chamber as it does on the Colt AR-15 models. Does the new Colt model, the 6940, have this feature, or is it just a newer M4 model??

My family owns a AR-15A2 Sporter II carbine in 9mm (also officially known as the Colt Model R6450) since 1994, and since California passed some sort of firearm act restricting telescoping stocks, flash hiders, 30 round magazines, and pistol grips, all of which our AR15A2 has.

Ever since California's ever-changing firearm policies, we have been scared to take it out of the house, since we were afraid that we might get arrested.

I've been wondering if a rifle purchased in 1994 can still be used as of now *legally*.

The question is self explanatory.


If Western civilization breaks down, the American government collapses under mountains of debt, and state and local governments fail. If you had to pick 4 guns to survive in a doomsday world what would they be? What 4 guns would you pick to protect your family, your home, and your property?

I would pick these 4 guns : 1 AR-15, 1 AK-47, 1 Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun, and a Colt 1911 .45 pistol.


Hoping to have better luck now. I'm having trouble determining what model it is, or it's value.

It's stamped "Match Target"
and under that "Lightweight". But it does not say Sporter, HBar, or Competition.
Chambered in 7.62 x 39 and stamped on it as well. Barrel is stamped "C MP 7.62 x 39 1/12"
The carry handle is NOT removable.
Has solid stock (not collapsible), barrel does not have a flash hider.
Do you know what it is? Would it say "HBar" somewhere on the rifle if it was? OH...and what is an "HBar" anyway?
Any idea about the model and value?
I've seen nothing on Gun Broker, GunsAmerica, or in a book on gun values on it's specific model. Everything is either also stamped Match Target Sporter, or Match Target HBar Cometition, etc...nothing seems to be stamped just "Target Match" "Lightweight" like mine?
Serial Number begins with CLH001***. And I find no record of CLH in any serial number search.

Why is it that many gun manufacturers have their headquarters and factories located in anti-gun/pro-gun control states? Look at Armalite, Krebs Custom, Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, DPMS, Stag Arms, Colt, Kimber, and many others. Why is it that they are located in states like Illinois, California, New York, Maine? Why?

My Personal Opinion:

If these states don't like the guns that these manufacturers are making, why don't these AR-15, AK-47, and home defense firearm manufacturers move to a progun state like Texas? I'm from Texas and I wish these guys will move their factories over here.


Hello, I'm using a Colt 6920, with '08 Lake City ammo and HK Steel Mags. I pull the charging handle and the round jams into the feeding ramps (That would normally or should normally push the round into the chamber). The bolt assembly just sits half way limp, trying to push (jam) the round into the chamber.
I tried to use other mags, should I just let the handle go, or gently ease it in?
Ok, I used two types of FMJ ammo, no luck. Still did the same thing, Behaved the same way.

Jammed into the feed ramp.
I have never fired this weapon, no taken anything apart aside from checking the bore for obstructions.





How come some are stamped 7.62 and others are stamped .308 if it's the same cartridge? I know, stupid question, but I was just curious. Is one more valuable than the other?
Since it's stamped 7.62 x 39 then that's all I can shoot? Or can it safely shoot a 308 cartridge?

I am wondering where I can buy a California legal SKS rifle? Once I get it I am going to add the evil feature the detachable mag. I have good reason we have lots of gangs that have taken over our neighbor hood and last week our house was hit in the cross fire of a gunfight. I am looking for a Stainless Steel pistol Grip for a gun conversion I am doing but can't find anything. I could use a AR-15 grip or possibly attach Colt 1911 grips to get the look I'd like. I would even strip off the blued finish if I could find a metal grip. Does ANYONE know where I could find something like this? Thank you.
After reading cs's post I checked out alumagrips.com and they were pretty much exactly what I was looking for. For anyone else looking, that site linked me to another called gungrips.net and they will engrave the alumagrips. So I bought some there. However, if anyone finds a site with aluminum AR-15 grips I'd love to know about those as well. Thanks everyone.


This ones does not have the forward assist, and does not break down with the pins like the the newer models. It does have one pin to break it open, but the other is actually a screw. I want to say it is a late 60's or early 70's model. It is in very good condition.
