cheap handguns

I am looking for a cheap but good gun. It is for self defence and pleasure shoot at a range. I am a complete NoOb at shooting. I am one of the morons who played a videogame and thought "This will be easy" and then got serious with it. By the way, I can handle a good deal of recoil.

This is going to be my first handgun, just looking for something cheap and easy to get started with. .22 lr seems to be the cheapest ammo for me to waste money on, so I was heading down that road.

Requirements:

1. Low cost (probably looking used)
2. Eats any sort of ammo I throw into it (don't want to spend money on 'premium' ammo when it doesn't matter if it flies straight b/c I can't hit anything anyway and I am not shooting anything that really must be shot)
3. Easy to clean (I have never cleaned a gun before, although I am not mechanically incompetent, so I should be ok with anything not to complex)

I feel like I would prefer a handgun over revolver, but that is not set in stone. Any suggestions?

Much appreciated.

I found a place local that has boxes of 50rd Remington UMC 9mm Luger 115gr JHP L9MM1 for $16.95 a box with no tax. I have bought lots of 9mm FMJ for target practice cheap online but even adding in the shipping its still cheaper than the local price. I dont know how plentifull handgun ammo is where you live but here most all shelfs are empty on all caliber & if not for the internet I would not be doing much shooting!
I have not fired much of the Remington UMC 9mm Luger 115gr JHP L9MM1 but from what I have it seem to be good quality & would use it day in & day out for self/home protection. So is $16.95 a good price & is the ammo good quality that I can trust my life with?
I know there is better & more expensive ammo out there, I have around 200rd of 9mm +P Remington 124 Grains JHP Golden Saber but I like to use the same ammo I practice with to be the same ammo I carry day in & day out & at $1 per round the Golden Saber is a bit to spendy!
MR S I have for the last couple years I have been shooting Federal Premium HYDRA-SHOK 147gr JHP that worked very well but my source has dried up & no longer available. I was paying much less than the $1 per round you quoted. I was paying $24.99 per box of 50 & I still have around 500 rounds of it. When I go out & target practice I will go through 200 rounds easy. The Remington I picked up shot just as well as the Federal at $200 less per case of 20 boxes.

I've been shooting glocks for the past 15 years and never had this problem. I just got a new Taurus PT1911 ( yes I know its a cheap clone, but I don't have 2 grand to drop on a Springfield) and after shooting around two mags I noticed the spent casing popping over my head. I then started practicing double taps and the casing were hitting my forehead and one of the hot cases dropped between my left eyelid and glasses. Now I have a nice little burn mark over my left eye. This is my first 1911 style handgun, so my question is do I need to replace the extractor pin or just get it tuned by a gunsmith? Can I tune it myself? I plan on taking the gun to a gunsmith to get the ambisafety replaced with a single one, so I guess I might as well order a new extractor pin too. Is this typical with 1911 guns?

All I can see is darkness. I hold out my hand, but it is swallowed into the shadows. In the deadly silence, a man’s footsteps approach and pass, the steel caps of his boots click on the concrete and he whistles his own, swinging his keys in boredom. Musky smells of cheap aeroplane food coasts along the dim corridor, at which a rat squeaked in delight.
I stared at the bars. I re-counted them. Still twenty seven. Engulfed in darkness, I laid on the thin, bumpy mattress staring at the ceiling. There was whimpering coming from the next cell. It must be his first night.
In my mind, my thoughts flashed back to the day my life changed forever. I had been sleeping peacefully when at 3am; I woke to the sounds of footsteps downstairs. I grabbed my Glock handgun from the bedside cabinet and charged downstairs. There, I found the silhouette of a person in the kitchen. The person swung around in shock and without thinking I pulled the trigger. Moments after I realised what I had done. I had killed my wife.

I'm looking to buy my first handgun. I had my mind set on the SR9 Rugar, although after talking to many people about this gun they all said go with Glock 17 or 19. I want a 9mm striker pistol. Not super cheap but not a $1,000 either. I am a girl so I want something on the small side. I was looking at a .45 Glock but it was WAY to big. Any suggestions? Anyone own the SR9 Rugar? I will be using it for home defense but also to take to the range alot. And something that will last awhile. PLEASE HELP!! :)

My husband just got a 12 gauge shot gun for his birthday. "for home defence". which is what started me wanting a gun. But if someone were to break in our house at night I dont think I could shoot the shotgun (way to heavy!) :)

I first off want to make it clear that I am not some crazed lunatic thinking everyone is out to get me..I am a college student..live in a fairly large city and live in a new apartment complex...the city has a high crime rate and even though I live in really nice apartments things are broken into and vandelized here all the time..I was looking for a hand gun to keep near my bed or vehicle....I can not afford what I really want..Springfield xdm 9mm...and need a cheaper yet good alternative...What suggestions can you give me? ALSO..I already have a pump 20 gauge...pump 12 gauge..300 mag encore rifle with interchangeable barrels..2 50 cal muzzleloaders.. a 270 a 243 and a 30-6 semi auto for hunting but I doubt any of these would have good manuverablity if I needed to grab it quick or have it in a tight spot..so which hand gun would be recommened for me..on a budget..and also out of the guns I have which would be best for a backup in the bedroom
Edit- I am 21..have hunted for about 11 years..had safety classes in hunting and hand guns...

I've seen so many discussions online and it seems very confusing, so many special situations!
-I'm not a criminal or a minor, no record, no felonies, I've been a CA resident for years; I'm just a regular dude who would like to get a permit / license or whatever and a handgun for personal safety.

What's the easiest / cheapest / quickest (and legal) way to go about it?

Also, I've heard that you can get much better deals just heading over to Reno to buy. Is it true? and/or what's the deal with that?
thanks
Thanks John, and I actually live near there lol! But I'd be looking for the prudent method; i.e. if something ever did happen, I'd want to be clean.

Alright this is just the beginning to a story im writing please just comment on this and tell me any suggestions for more dialect, actions, anythings accepted thanks :)

Sherk. Thats what he strictly went by, everyone called him that. He was imfamous for his chrome-plated, black slide, Smith and Weston handgun. There was sketching inscribed in the handle that was put there in the 90's and resembled flames as he was known for his ruthlessness. Everyone in New York knew him, civilian or not, and wanted him dead. He'd done alot of deals that went wrong and for this he was marked. But like all cases theres a way to get out of it. For Sherk, it was money. The leaders of crime in the city wanted four million dollars to ensure his safety and had proposed a way to get this money, but it was dangerous.

East City Trust, guarded heavily by men hardened by war, hate and aggression. They were a class of their own and remained that way since attempted robbery was common but all ended the the same way... a gun being shot and the robber being carried away in a body bag.

But Sherk, he was different. He was organized and prideful, yet he knew how to be dnagerous, but safe, and get the job done. Sherk was a strong man with a few tattoos lining his shoulders, neck and back and had a short hair-cut. He was a man you knew had the ability to do whatever he wanted, as soon as his gaze crossed yours.

6:45 AM June 12th, 2010

"Men, todays the day." Sherk declared. "You've all been assigned top of the line AR-14's. Use 'em wisely they dont come cheap. I'ma give an overview of the plan before we head off. Now Johnson and Riley, you'll both put a distraction at the front of the plaza involving smoke grenades and tear gas. I want four-round bursts at sight of guards and please, please don't miss, I have too much riding on this and have put way too much time and effort into this to have it fail. Next, Scott, Durant and Phillips. I want you three on the building across the street with rifles and I want you to kill anything that could cause this mission to go well... wrong. You understand?"
"Yes, sir!" All three exclaimed simultaneously.
"Now here comes the tricky part" Sherk replied. "Breach and extraction. Were gonna take a direct approach and go in the front. Shoot anything that moves other than tellers and the manager, we need them. Their our only way into the vault, so we need them alive. After we're in jump the counters and grab the tellers. I'll go get Daniel, the manager and get the keys to the vault, where boys, all our troubles will be solved. After we have the money everyone go to the roof where we will be extracted by helicopters. The three across the street will be picked up later. Now does anyone have any question?"
"I do sir" A man called from the back of the room.
"Well, I wont answer you but who are you?" Sherk said back with a hint of sarcasm as his hand found his gun. "I haven't seen you before."
"The names Ferguson. You could say I'm new."
" Alright, fine. You'll stay with me during this. You better keep me alive." Sherk answered.
"Will do" replied Ferguson.
"Alright men, lets go and good luck"

Sherk was insane everyone thought. He was'nt, he was smart. He had grown up in a high crime neighborhood and learned how stuff worked.
His father had scritozfrenia and it had passed down to him, so he was different. As they pulled up the robbery started.

9:15 AM June 12th, 2010

"Everyone down!" yelled Riley as the tear gas went off and spread throughout the lobby spreading its noxious toxins.
"Move left guys and stay in formation" informed Sherk. They saw a guard raise up and right before he fired Sherk heard the crack of the bullet spliting air and then collided with the guard right in the shoulder. "Killshots guys, please get this right" said Sherk as he glared up at the snipers. As three guards turned the corner ready to engage with a clip of bullets Sherk yelled. "Look guys, we've already gotten this far, so just give up"
"We never have and never will" replied the guard.
"Suit yourself" reclaimed Sherk " we'll kill you all then." As he said this he looked to his right only to see Riley get shot in the chest and his limp body drop to the floor. "Guys, Rileys down, we need someone over here now!"
"Don't worry, I'm here" said Ferguson as he pulled up his AR-15 and fired a few rounds into the direction of opposition

I live in a rural area in Southern illinois and am thinking about purchasing my first gun; for protection, hunting, shooting enjoyment. All of my friends and family have guns, I just never got one. I just sent off my VOID Card application and I'm not sure what to do next. I've considered handguns and shotguns, but I;m not sure what woudl be best for a first timer. I've never really looked at the guns at Wal-mart, are they any good? Basically I want a cheap, easy to use gun. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I am an 18 year old college student who is interested in purchasing his first gun in the summer. I am interested in guns and shooting and want to become more familiar with guns and having gun(s) around the house for home defense. Presently my only experience with guns is with my uncle's 12 and 16 gauge shotguns.

Nobody in my family knows much about guns and of course like other gun-ignorant people, are scared of guns. This will make me one of the few people from my California-family who have entered the realm of firearms.

I am wondering three things primarily.
a) What would be the best way for me to prepare and learn about buying and owning guns
b) What kind of gun should I purchase as a good, fairly cheap beginner firearm
c) Does anyone have a good link to specifics about California gun laws?

Mainly, I am wondering what kind of beginner gun ownership courses I should look to take (if any). Is it true that gun shows are better places to buy guns than gun shops?

Also, I am considering now to buy a shotgun (most likely, they seem the cheapest, simplest to maintain and handle) or maybe a Colt 1911 or a Glock model because ammunition is cheaper and I will need a lot of practice. I understand I cannot buy a handgun until I am 21, but I have heard that you can OWN a handgun if you're 18, just not buy one - say if someone buys one and then transfers ownership to you. Is this true?

Thank you for your help.

i know that the .22lr is very cheap but can someone give me an alternative

first of all your vulnerable .......... sorry. who do you think you have a better chance of surviving a face off against a very upset man with a cheap loaded handgun or a 3 foot tall, 8 foot long orb spider very soft body but can paralyze you and web you. and lets say your in a 16x25 room that has stairs but their is no door just solid brick. like i said your vulnerable but i guess i could give you a machete........lol...we will say it just something you had on your wall.

I have a 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 revolver. Now I'm just looking for something to shoot for cheap. I was looking at a sig mosquito but the one I rented had feeding problems even with CCI mini-mags.

What guns do you guys think are good? How's the P22 and Ruger Mark pistols? Did I leave something out? Maybe a revolver.

I'm looking for a .22LR handgun, needs to be reliable and cheap, i'm open to revolers or autos, just wondering, whats the cheapest i can hope to get one? i have lots of tin cans waiting to be shot and not much cash.

I live in Taylor MI and I need a gun for under $100.

I'm 14. Please don't lecture me about having a gun. I know I don't need it and i'm not going to use it. I just want one.

And how cheap can I get an AK-47.

If you're not going to answer my question please don't bother because i won't lisen to people trying to tell me i don't need a gun and blah blah blah.

Thankks
I know it's against the law i don't care. No one will find out unless i use it and that one reason i'm not going to. I grew up around guns and It would feel nice to own a gun... now.
Dang people! I don't even listen to rap music all that much, i grew up around guns, my dad used to have an ak and i would only want to use it for target practice if i use it for anything. PLEASEEE just answer the question! damn!!!

Ok, I am sure you see alot of questions on the perfect weapon for home defense.

I am considering getting a handgun for my wife, and teaching her how to use it. so she can have some peace of mind when I am away from home working.

I currently use a cheap 9mm that jams every 2nd round fired. It is old, it is tired. So I am thinking of buying something along the lines of a .40 cal. Possibly a Beretta.

Anyone out there have any good advice on a weapon that is easy for a woman to use , has stopping power but will not leave the house in the event she ever has to use it and misses the "drop zone"?

I have taught her how to use my rifle, but it is extremely high power and if a stray bullet went out of the house there is no telling where it would end up.

Thanks in advance for your answers...all I am looking for is some advice. I know what has good stopping power for someone who is comfy with firearms..i just need to know what would be good for a woman.
Thank you guys, some very thoughtful answers coming up here.

between 80 and 120

My collection will soon either include a Ruger MKIII Bull barrel, Ruger KP345PR, Buckmark, or some relatively cheap 1911.

The .22 pistols aren't as fun IMHO, but they have a good place in a mid-volume shooters collection. I have tried several MKII and MKIIIs, they just don't get me as excited as the centerfires.

I have always liked the Ruger KP345, good price, comfort, comes with safeties, has a decocker, low recoil, accurate, strong frame, but I think .45 is kinda expensive. I also like the KP345 because it is easy for CCW, and it has that DA/SA trigger which is big plus for me in home defense or CCW. If it came in 9mm, then I'd be all over it. I also have a 1911 made by RIA, love the design and low recoil, but mine is in .38super. So I might sell it (ammo is way harder to find for .38sueper than even .380) to fund this new gun. I was thinking if I am able to find a good RIA or Springfield GI for sub 500$, that would be in consideration.

What is the cheapest handgun on the market today ? I was looking at a high point C9 i know they are junk guns but it seems like the cheapest any other contenders ?

I have fired plenty of semi-automatic handguns (9mm) but I want to try something really fun. Cheap ammo would be a plus :)

I just 21 and now can buy a handgun. I want something cheap (I mean REALLY cheap) and considering one of those"junk" guns like the Lorcin 380 or Raven 25. Now before you guys start say those pistols are crap and such, I've thought it thru. I know they are junky. some of them might explode when fired. They're not reliable to use for home/self protection and the caliber is too weak for any purpose like that. I just looking for something that's range-only type of pistol. A 100% condition Raven 25 is worth like $60, about as much as a decent airsoft pistol.

I live in California and the Raven and Lorcin pistols are only legal secondhand (used). Where can I find one of those?

I am filming a short thriller for a class I am taking. Two of the props involved are guns. I need a revolver and a semi automatic handgun (like M9, M1911, or some sort of law-enforcement type). Where can I get either blank firing guns, or even something dumb like airsoft. I am on a limited budget so cheapest would be great.

does ANYONE make a weapon mounted light (L.E.D preferably) that fits under the front rail of a subcompact handgun (HK P2000, similar to xd and usp) that DOES NOT protrude past the front muzzle of the handgun? I find it hard to believe I can't find one, when you can make a keychain with an L.E.D. light, but none of the gun part manufacturers are jumping on this? I know there's tons of expensive and cheap lights, but none are small (that I see) and all of them protrude at least half an inch past the muzzle. Somebody help me here!
dont tell me a light on a pistol is a bad idea. when i hear a noise at night i want to reach for one thing not a gun and a light. if they can make super small lasers then they can make super small led lights. it doesnt have to be super bright. just bright enough to see in a bedroom or living room or basement. even a CANDLE can accomplish this mysterious feat.... so..... an l.e.d. light, using 3 watch batteries, encased within acryllic or similar plastic casing lined with metal subframe, and side switch.... i'm sure it can be done. I'm asking DOES ANYONE MAKE IT? I know some people say, "don't strap it on there" well even officers have these. geez..

im lookin to have a gun custom made, but my problem is i cant find anyone to make it, basically i want an m1911 thats 15inches in total length rather then the standered 6 inches, and im wanting it to be either a .45 cal or .50. prefurably a .45 the ammo is cheaper. (trying to copy the handun from the anime hellsing if possible) so if anyone could help out on this that be great. and price really isnt an issue to me

I am 19 and I Live in washington. I am looking and researching to see what kind of handgun i wanna get. The problem is that you have to be 21 to buy one. So i cant just go into gun stores and ask to see them. but i wanna research before i turn 21 and then i will know what to get. I am a pistol person but i want something with a clip. I have always liked glocks for some reason but i have never fired one or anything like that. so i dont know what it better. I want to use it for targets here and there, but mostly its going to be for protection and i want to get a conceiled licence. So what Brand is best. Which is cheapest. What callibre, i dont know where to start? I need help to narrow it down to a few. so where do i start?

They always try to rhyme "9" or "22" in their songs with other words, but do they realize how minimum the stopping power on those two calibers are? They should stick to .40 S&W or .45 ACP on their handguns.

Also, do gangstas realize how dangerous sticking guns in their pants is? Why not by a belt and a cheap holster at least? Haven't they seen 8 Mile or heard what Plaxico Burres did?
Jeez Missy, it was a joke. I asked a similar joke question talking exclusively about holsters a few months back.
@representin: .223 & 5.56 are exactly the same size. The only difference is the metal used. And the US isn't going to replace the 5.56 with the 7.62 anytime soon. 5.56 is too accurate, and most assault weapons with a 7.62 is inaccurate and heavy and has terrible recoil issues.

Thanks for the serious answer though. Didn't think I'd get one in here. lol

i really need a good g3,g36c,p90,or ump at least im already going to get a 65$ m92f gas powered blowback handgun and a holster and i need a primary weapon any good recommendations? thanks....

I am a Michigan resident and turned 21 so I am looking for a relatively cheap handgun for basic home defense. What is the process of buying a handgun and what type of handgun would you recommend buying?

This March I will be 21 and where I live in Virginia that is how old you must be to own a handgun or have a concealed weapons permit.

I was thinking about getting a little something to keep on me when I am in sketchy neighborhoods. I really like the Ruger .380 LCP. It is small, easily concealed, cheap, has good fire power, a decent caliber, and you can get a laser sight that attaches to the trigger guard. (Bad Ass!!!)

Newayz, on to my question. If I am ever pulled over and I have my firearm on me, should I immediately tell the officer that I have a weapon in my possesion and that I have a permit? Or should I let it go unless he searches me?

Also, if I am ever searched (in any situation other than passing through airport or any other kind of security) can anyone rightfully, lawfully take my weapon from me if I haven't done anything wrong?

Like, if I am pulled over for speeding (never been pulled over BTW) and the officer asks me to step out of my car and searches me or the car and finds my gun, can he take it from me legally?

What price range do they normally go for?

I'm 18 years old and i hear you cant buy handgun ammo if your under 21 . But you can buy long gun ammo if you are 18. i want to buy a hi-point 9mm carbine rifle. how will i be able to get ammo for it. i want it as a first gun and its cheap.

im lookin for a 9mm handgun 3.5 to 4" barrel my budgets $200.00, but
$150.00 would be much better any suggestions?

My budget is around a little over $40 and I'm looking for a cheap full-metal, full-size, and full-weight 1911A1 handgun with either black or parkerized colors. Any answer is appreciated!
Actually, I forgot to mention that I'm looking for any 1911 capable of blowback and has a full metal weight. I don't mind whether it is a spring, gas, or electric, although a cheap CO2 one would be appreciated.

I'm looking for a good hand gun but since there is a job opening in my company im in need of a cheap handgun just so I can get the job. The only problem is that Im puzzled if there is a regulation on what caliber has to be carried on duty......

in the simpsons episode who shot mr burns, there were several clues and red herrings as to who the shooter was. the ones that you probably noticed were:

when mr burns feel onto the sundial he points to W and S. this is not to help full as there are many characters with those initials (this ends up standing for maggie simpson)

in part one mr burns says, "just like taking candy from a baby. hey that sounds like a laugh." when he is shoot by maggie he says he feels like celebrating indicating that he whats some candy.

when mr burns staggers towards the sundial after having been shot you can briefly see that his gun from his suit is missing.

However there were also some clues and red herrings you may have missed:

when mr burns says, "witch of you has the guts to stop me?" everyones eyes shift around as if they want someone else to do it for them, except for one person, the only person who keeps her eyes firmly on mr burns with a angry look is maggie.

when some people are seen stroking guns,Skinner has a silenced handgun, Moe has a shotgun, Barney has a derringer, and Smithers has a standard handgun. this meens that the skinner moe and barney could not have shot him as the sound and damage of the shot would have been different, yet smithers has the right gun for what happend.

just before homer spraypaints his name in mr burns office while at his care, there is a sign with a arrow above it in only. for a split second homers head covers up all the letters except NO and the arrow is pointing towards him.

during a scene in moes taven, the tv shows a advert for pardon my zinger. in the advert it says that the show starts at 3 pm on comedy central. later in the town meeting, smither says that he watches comedy central and never misses pardon my zinger however mr burns was shot at 3 pm.

when smithers leaves the town hall he is seen going in the opposite way to what mr burns goes.

there were lots of refrences to the number 3 in the episode and in the episode before part 1:
the opening titles to part 1 shows the time as 5 to 3
the time that homer hands in his letter is at 3
the number of times that bart has been supended according to lisa is 3
the amount of enemies that mr burns takes out is 3 (moes taven, the school and the old age home)
the number of times that mr burns forgets homers name in part 1 is 3
the.
this is to do with the fact that mr burns was shot at 3 pm and also could be a hint that the shooter was 3 years old.

did you notice these or not and did you notice any other clues?

also what did you think about it being maggie?

i personaly think it was good and not just a cheap ending because the clues did come toghther and make sence.
(and at least it was not as bad as the dallas, who shot J.R, conclusion!)
i know it was maggie thats why i said it at the bottom!!!!!!!

i want a 9mm. nothing to fancy and nothing to cheap. it must have good weight accuracy, feel, takedown, grip, stopping power safety etc.
what is my best choice?
well no i have shot rifles, shotguns and pistols before. im just asking what to get because i find 9mm to be accurate.

What would be the cheapest, most lightweight, and little recoil gun out there? As a slim guy myself, i'm looking for a handgun-pistol that has very little recoil and lightweight, or small.

For my first handgun purchase, I was thinking about getting a handgun chambered in 9mm. I selected 9mm since:

-It has light recoil
-Ammo is very cheap and readily available (partly due to military surplus)
-9mm has a high velocity
-US military uses 9mm, and it is sufficient for them
-Has good stopping power with proper shot placement

That being said, can anyone give me a good reason why I should consider a different caliber? For the reasons I listed above, I think 9mm is a sensible choice. Do you agree?

I want something easily concealed and still effective in wounding a robber that is going to run no more than $500 for the gun and ammo.
Thanks for all the advice. I already own a paintball gun and some riotballs i got off ebay but I am about to do a lot of traling all over the us and have not ever really experienced a "rough" neighborhood so just want to be prepared for the worst and I don't believe the rubber balls could disable a man with a gun safely. My main goal is to keep my family safe at any cost just hope it never comes though.

the Walther is about $320 new, and the Phoenix Arms is About $170. I personally like how the walther looks because it looks like a bigger caliber and is combat in style, and I know it would be very reliable. But, the Phoenix is so much cheaper and from owners of them I have talked to said they were reliable.

this ammo jammed in the barrel of my berreta piston when i closed the action, i had a hell of a time getting it back open. but it cycled alright in my cheap 9mm rifle.. any ideas ? i read somewhere a min. ago its unsafe to use that way also ? what should i do with about 975 rds of it left ?? no returns where i ordered it from, but they sent me this markov, because she was out of luger.. stinks
